Management Team

Russ McMeekin, CEO

Upon receiving funding from Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), SCI appointed Russ McMeekin as its Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining SCI, Mr. McMeekin served from 2002 to 2008 as President, Chief Executive Officer and Board member of Progressive Gaming International, an integrated gaming management systems provider who pioneered the use of RFID in poker chips for the casino gaming industry worldwide. From 2001 to 2002 he was President and Chief Executive Officer of ViaFone, Inc., a private venture funded wireless enterprise software company where he remained on the board of directors of Extended Systems post merger with ViaFone.

Mr. McMeekin worked at Honeywell International for 11 years in various capacities including President of e-business which oversaw Myplant (serving the industrial community), Myfacilities (serving the commercial building industry) and MyAircraft a venture with Honeywell, I2 and BF Goodrich.  Mr. McMeekin also served as President and General Manager of Honeywell’s Hi-Spec Solutions business unit, the advanced software technology and optimization division of Honeywell International.  Hi-Spec Solutions used complex mathematical models to control and optimize industrial plants such as refineries and chemical plants that required mission critical advanced control.  Mr. McMeekin also led Honeywell’s Advanced Software Division in Asia Pacific, building satellite offices in India, Australia, Korea and a JV in China.

Mr. McMeekin graduated in Engineering Technology at Sault College of Applied Science and Technology in Canada.

John Pitcher, COO

Mr. Pitcher founded Scientific Conservation with the vision of creating useful products and services based on his over 35 years of experience in the energy conservation space. Prior to founding SCI in 2007, Mr. Pitcher served as Vice President of Energy Technologies for Sterling Planet, the leading retail provider of renewable energy credits in the U.S. Mr. Pitcher pioneered the idea of using a variation of artificial intelligence known as artificial neural networks (ANNs) to create accurate base-lines to calculate “Energy Efficiency Credits” also known as “White Tags.” Prior to joining Sterling Planet Mr. Pitcher spent five years as director of technology for Service Resources, which later became Prenova, the largest provider of energy services for commercial customers. While at Prenova, Mr. Pitcher conceived and promoted the concept of the “Virtual Audit” an idea he had been working on for over fifteen years which provided manual remote commissioning using data from existing facility automation systems.

Previously, he was COO of Envenergy, the creators of what is now the Cisco Mediator. In addition, Mr. Pitcher was director of operations for Entergy’s non-regulated services group with responsibility for an $80 million dollar roll out of products and services. Mr. Pitcher also served as a general manager for Comfort Systems USA in Madison, Wis., and was McDonald’s Corporation’s first energy manager. In his early career Mr. Pitcher taught commercial refrigeration and air conditioning at Scott Community College in Bettendorf Iowa and Greer Technical Institute of Chicago where he became department head at the age of 23.

Jeff Moran, CFO

Upon receiving funding from Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ), SCI appointed Jeff Moran as its Chief Financial Officer.  Prior to joining SCI, from 2007 to 2010 Mr. Moran served as CFO of Brighton Collectibles, Inc.; a privately held wholesaler and retailer of men’s and women’s accessories operating in more than 6000 boutiques nationwide.

Before joining Brighton Collectibles, Mr. Moran was the Chief Operating Officer and CFO of Freeman® Beauty Labs; a privately held company founded in 1976 and marketer of hair, body and foot care products.  Prior to Freeman, Mr. Moran was the CFO and Executive Vice President of Pharmavite, LLC; a global leader in the dietary supplement industry, manufacturer of nutritional supplements sold under Nature Made®, the nation’s number one best-selling brand of vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements.

Mr. Moran has also held executive roles with some of the largest brands in the world: Nestle USA Food Company, Dreyer’s/Edy’s Grand Ice Cream, and Thrifty Drugs (now part of Rite Aid).

Mr. Moran has a Master of Management degree in Marketing and Strategic Management from the J.L. Kellog School of Management at Northwestern University, and a BS in Business/Accounting from the University of Minnesota.  He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Thor Johnson, CTO

Thor Johnson is a software developer with over 20 years of commercial software development experience, both in the enterprise development and in embedded systems.  Having working for Altea Therapeutics, Movaz Networks, Prenova, and Northrop Grumman, Mr. Johnson brings a tremendous amount of expertise from developing systems as small as a handheld drug delivery system to ones as large as a 144-Terabit optical switch. He has also developed several scalable, enterprise management systems including an enterprise Thin-Client Management System as well as the SCI Diagnostic Engine. Mr. Johnson holds a B.S.E. and a B.A. in Computer Science from Mercer University.

Alan White, VP Corporate Development

Alan White joined the SCI team as Vice President of Corporate Development in 2010.  He brings 18 years of executive experience in business development and product strategy in both start-up and established companies developing design, software-as-a-service (SaaS), and clean-tech solutions.

Prior to SCI, Mr. White served as Vice President, Market Development for Coulomb Technologies, a leader in worldwide electric vehicle charging station infrastructure and remains on its Advisory Board. Mr. White was Vice President, Business Development for Daintree Networks, where he drove the change of the small Australian start-up to wireless lighting controls.

He was a co-founder of SupplyBase, which pioneered web-based technical sourcing and was sold to i2 Technologies in 2000. Mr. White has held senior positions at Autodesk, where he led next-generation SaaS product direction, and Silicon Graphics at the outset of the computer graphics industry, where he led the manufacturing industry solutions group.

Mr. White holds a BS in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Union College, and an MS from the MIT Sloan School. Alan currently serves on the Board of Directors of Bodega Algae.

Dave Weinerth, VP Strategic Accounts

SCI appointed Dave Weinerth VP, Strategic Accounts in 2010.  Prior to joining the SCI team, Mr. Weinerth served from 2006 to 2010 as the Director of Business Development at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), where he developed the framework for PARC’s Energy Domain of Innovation and led a solar spinout company (SunLyne Corp.).

From 2003 to 2006, while at Technology Ventures Corp., Mr. Weinerth guided early stage spinouts from Bay Area universities and national labs in raising equity capital.  In 2000, Mr. Weinerth founded a wireless telemetry company (Eberwhite Data Technologies) to resolve inventory management challenges in the specialty chemical industry. He had previously led the automotive business for BOC Gases (now Linde), and held a variety of management and engineering positions at Guardian Industries and the U.S. Army.

Mr. Weinerth is active as a volunteer and mentor for the Cleantech Open, the Environmental Business Cluster, and the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC).

Mr. Weinerth graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in Engineering Management, and received an MBA from the University of Michigan (Ross) Business School.

Lin Little, VP-Sales and Business Development

Lin Little has been in enterprise software and web based solutions for 25 years. He began his technology career at Xerox as a design engineer, then sales and marketing of hi tech solutions. He was a co-founder of LeadersOnline, a subsidiary of Heidrick & Struggles, one of the first full service Internet based executive search firms. His cleantech career began at EnFlex Corporation, an industry leading provider of facility monitoring software, then SunEdison, North America’s leading solar energy services provider. Lin is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.

Chip Pieper, VP-Sales and Business Development

Chip Pieper is a veteran of the software industry having held leadership positions at Microsoft, Sourcecode (K2), US Web as well as founding Alignsoft.net and co-founding BizStorm Software and Info-One Technology. In addition, he also co-founded Service Equity, a private equity firm. His cleantech experience began at EnFlex Corporation, an industry leading provider of facility monitoring software, then SunEdison, North America’s leading solar energy services provider. Chip holds degrees from both the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and Marquette University.
